Yet,another reason Will smith is the coolest!

  • Anthony wrote on 14 January, 2008, 1:32

    cheated
the cube was already partially done when he started
the bottom side was finished as well as the two bottom layers

  • narky wrote on 14 January, 2008, 20:14

They trained him to do that for a movie he was in. It wasn’t even a very good movie. I like his action stuff better.

  • Austin wrote on 14 January, 2008, 20:15

So he cheated by only doing the hardest part of a rubik’s cube?

If he can finish the last row, he could probably do everything leading up to that.

  • arLeNe wrote on 15 January, 2008, 5:55

awesome… i my self cant solve that one in seconds..

  • HappyPanda wrote on 15 January, 2008, 10:25

it would take me a lot longer, even from that starting point… so: way to go Will!

What you don’t see is when they cut away, he’s peeling off the damn stickers and putting em back on! Will Smith cheats.

i can solve a rubix cube for 2 seconds.

will smith solving it FOR 55 seconds doesn’t mean it’s solved.

    learn some fucking grammar.

  • Jach wrote on 17 January, 2008, 2:59

Actually, I find the third layer to be one of the quickest. (The algorithms get a little tougher, but it’s still fast to do.) The real time consumers for me are the first and second layers.

Still, nice to know that he at least knows the basics. I just figured they shot him solving it, then had a solver do some, then him again, and so on.

  • Tazittel wrote on 17 January, 2008, 5:44

I know people that can do it in under 30 seconds.

And I scramble it for them, for about ten minutes…o_O

  • PlaydohHero wrote on 17 January, 2008, 5:50

You do know he also did this during Fresh Prince, right? It was the episode where he was speaking with the Princeton admissions guy. But! I personally think he can do it, no matter how much practice. His method of counting was interesting.. you can notice it as he’s tapping the cube.

its only because hes a scientologist

    @Anthony
    Don’t be so damn skeptical.
Narky is correct, the rubik’s cube played a big role in “The Pursuit of Happyness”.

  • Ryden wrote on 18 January, 2008, 22:25

Not very impressive, but nice that he can do it.
    Why only the last layer?

  • Michelle wrote on 19 January, 2008, 6:45

If you listen to the dialogue it says that he’s actually already a minute in about 20-30 seconds after the beginning of the clip. Which means he probably had been doing the other sides, someone just mislabeled the video.

    @Michelle
If it wasn’t for the on screen clock in the corner….

  • Mike C wrote on 20 January, 2008, 13:55

Can’t you see the film footage is played in reverse? He is starting with a finished cube and then scrambling it.
Look closely at the audience for proof: a sneeze flies up some dude’s nose!!

  • Joel wrote on 20 January, 2008, 22:11

I saw the movie where he had to do this
I didn’t think he’d actually learned to do it !

  • NAKMAL wrote on 23 January, 2008, 3:38

hooray for petrus last layer…. that was pretty slow, but at least he remembers how to do it

Those are easy, anyone can learn them and do them that fast and especially when you start off with a whole corner. 4×4 and 5×5 are easy as well. Trust me just look up how to do it on youtube and give it a weekend and you´ll be a cubemaster

  • Anthony udontneedtoknowmylastname wrote on 9 September, 2008, 20:07
